Have you ever tried to rock an all-white outfit, only for it to be stained with food or dirtied in the rain in the middle of the day? It’s the worst, right? It might not be that easy to remove from your clothes, either. Many people already don’t know how. To help you, we have listed down below some tips you could use as a stain removal guide.
What Is the Best Grease Stain Removal Technique? Can You Get Crayon Stains Out of Clothes?
Crayon stains can be removed much in the same way grease stains are. Because wax, which crayons are made of, and grease are insoluble in water, they are harder to remove than most stains on clothes. You can’t just put your clothes in and wash them. An effective grease stain removal technique involves concentrated pre-treatment, which absorbs as much of the grease as possible before washing. For small stains, you may blot them with a cloth to absorb the grease. For larger stains, you have to sprinkle an absorbent powder to get the grease off. You can use baking soda or talcum powder, both of which are usually common household items. Sprinkle these on top of the stained part and leave it overnight.
For crayons, scrape off as much as you can first. If the stains persist, rub the stained part gently with baking soda sprinkled on a damp cloth. The following morning, wash the stained clothes with laundry detergent and warm water.
Can You Remove Ink from Clothes?
Of course! You’ve probably had that experience where you are writing with a pen and it suddenly spills ink, leaving some on your clothes. The first thing to do is to determine what type of ink stain you have, whether it’s water-based or permanent. Water-based stains are easier to remove. Simply apply water to the stained area and blot it with a cleaning cloth. The ink stain would begin transferring to the cleaning cloth, and once done, you can wash your clothes with liquid detergent and warm water.
For permanent stains, place the stained clothing on top of a clean white towel. Then, blot it with rubbing alcohol using a paper towel or another clean cloth, diluting the stain and making it easier to remove during washing.
How Do You Clean Up Makeup Stains?
This problem is probably more common for girls and women. While many enjoy wearing makeup, it is inevitable that some of that makeup might come off on clothing. While there are many types of makeup, we’ll touch on the two most common ones: lipstick and foundation.
Lipstick usually come in red and pink shades, making them very visible when they appear on white clothing. If you want to get back that flawless white color, start with a paper towel or a clean cloth and blot the stain to absorb and remove any excess color. Then, use a grease-fighting soap like a dishwashing liquid, since most lipsticks are oil-based. Rub drops of the dishwashing liquid on the stain and let it stay for 10-15 minutes. Next, use a terry cloth to rub the liquid soap into the stain in a circular motion from the outer edges to the middle. Lastly, dab it with a dry towel and repeat the procedure if the stain is not removed completely.
For liquid foundations, start by scraping off excess foundation with a plastic knife or an old card, and blot the stained portion with a damp paper towel. To remove the remaining stain, pour a few drops of hydrogen peroxide and, using a toothbrush, work it into the stain in a circular motion. Then lay the fabric down to dry.
After doing all these, make sure to wash your clothes using detergent and warm water.
